Alan is best known for co-creating the highly successful children’s music series Beautiful Creatures with Ed Jordan. They have released seven albums and have achieved platinum and four gold albums in South Africa, and have been acknowledged by the music industry with two SAMA nominations as well as by the South African theatre industry with a Naledi award for best children’s production in 2010. They have released four children’s books ‘Mafutha the Elephant’, and ‘Imvubu the Happiest Hippo’, ‘Lucas the Lazy Lion’ and ‘Harry the hungry Hadeda’. During the 2010 World Cup, they co-produced a stage production of ‘Beautiful Creatures’ with Hazel Feldman at Montecasino’s Teatro Theatre, which attracted over 20 000 people. They are represented on Itunes throughout the world. Beautiful Creatures has been designed to be parent friendly children’s music and has a strong education, conservation and environmental message. Alan, Ed and Paul Choritz co-founded a record label to manage the Beautiful Creatures brand. Alan’s career began writing and performing with the acclaimed accapella cabaret group “Not the Midnight Mass” in 1988. The group was acknowledged by the entertainment industry with awards including a Dalro Cabaret Revue Award, Evening Post Award and a Vita nomination. In 1992 he co-founded the innovative media and advertising company GMR Transit Media, focusing on taxi, train and outdoor media. In 2001 he and his partners sold the business to Corpcom / Clearchanel International. He subsequently started Sprocket Productions (now Alan Glass Production) a corporate communications consultancy, which specialises in Event Production, TV and Radio production, Industrial Theatre, and Brand activation. His clients have included MARS SA, Alexander Forbes, Proctor and Gamble, Eskom, FNB, Cell C, Discovery Health, Investec, Metlife, Imperial, Medshield, Basil Read and many more. In 2015 he and his business partner Vicky Friedman (Fried-Glass Event Production Company) produced all the entertainment for a 4 day conference for Caltex Australia for 500 people. Apart from his singing voice, he is also known for numerous TV and radio voice-overs, and for several years was a resident voice artist on KTV and Mnet. In 2009, Alan was commissioned to create a children’s story book, song and in-store content for an extensive brand campaign for Proctor and Gamble’s brand, Pampers. Alan’s book ’Oliver’s Outline’ was published by Pan Macmillan in 2015, and the new Beautiful Creatures book ‘He also recently toured South Africa with internationally acclaimed UK children’s author Julia Donaldson and produced the events with Pan Macmillan. In September 2016 Alan and Vicky produced the opening ceremony entertainment for the global CITES Cop 17 conference for 3000 delegates. Alan lives in Cape Town and has two teenage daughters who were toddlers when Beautiful Creatures began.
